BBC Three Picks Up Aidy Bryant Comedy Shrill

BBC Three has acquired the U.K. rights from Warner Bros. Television for the comedy series Shrill, starring Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant.

The first season will be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer beginning Sunday, December 15. The series, inspired by Shrill: Notes From A Loud Woman by Lindy West, is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks. After its successful airing in the U.S., the series has already been commissioned for a second season.

The 6×25-minute series stars Bryant as Annie, an overweight young woman who wants to change her life but not her body. Annie is trying to start her career while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent, and a perfectionist boss.The series also features Lolly Adefope, who plays her best friend and roommate Fran, along with Luka Jones, Ian Owens, John Cameron Mitchell and Patti Harrison.

Shrill is produced by Broadway Video and Brownstone Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
