Comedy Central UK has given the green light for the brand-new unscripted series Gods of the Game, hosted by Britain’s most decorated Olympian, Sir Bradley Wiggins.

The series is set to feature a raft of other prominent British sports stars including Sir Mo Farah, Sir Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington, Nicola Adams, Jimmy Anderson, Tim Henman, Tommy Fleetwood, Ben Cohen, Max Whitlock, Sam Quek, Raymond van Barneveld, Joanna Roswell, and Shand and Hannah Cockcroft. Commissioned as a 5×30-minute series, Gods of the Game will be filmed in the U.K. later this summer and will air early next year on Comedy Central UK.

Each episode will follow the athletes (“the gods”) as they take on everyday contestants (“the mortals”) in unique challenges based upon the impressive skills of each sporting legend. The mortals will be given the option to choose how much of a head start they require, and the bigger the advantage the less points they win, reducing their chances of a podium finish in the medal ceremony and consequent bragging rights.

“We know that people love sport and they love comedy so taking the two genres and combining them reflects our ongoing commitment to finding funny in new places,” commented Louise Holmes, VP and general manager of Comedy Central UK. “We have a truly incredible lineup of athletic names who we know can take the heat when under pressure, but we’ll have to see how they fare when tasked with comedy versions of their sports!”

Gods of the Game has been commissioned by Holmes and developed by Chris Curley, head of development at Comedy Central UK. It is being produced by Mad Monk, creator of Banzai and Wild Things, and the executive producer for the series is Gary Monaghan.
