SPI International/FilmBox & Vodafone Spain to Continue Partnership

SPI International/FilmBox and Vodafone Spain have extended their distribution partnership, allowing 4K subscribers continued access to the FunBox UHD Channel.

The two first paired up in 2017 and launched FunBox UHD in Spain. The channel features travel and nature documentaries, arts and culture shows, lifestyle programs, extreme sports and movies.

“Vodafone was our first partner in Spain, and it gives me great pleasure to continue working with the Vodafone team, and offering an ever-richer volume of native UHD programs to their 4K subscribers, whilst hopefully inspiring non-4K subscribers to upgrade their viewing experience,” said Georgina Twiss, managing director for Western Europe and Africa at SPI International.

SVOD Spend to Reach €3 Billion in Western Europe

Total spending on SVOD in Western Europe hit the €2 billion mark ($2.24 billion) in 2015 and is forecast to reach €3 billion ($3.35 billion) by year-end 2016, according to a new report from IHS Markit. As existing services reach saturation in key markets, year-on-year growth in spending on online SVOD in Western Europe will slow into the forecast period (2016-2020), the report said. Even this slower increase in value generated from SVOD will be sufficient to make the platform the largest in terms of total home video spending.
