Mediterráneo to Present Mediaset España Titles at MIPTV

Mediaset España has appointed Ghislain Barrois to the role of CEO of Mediterráneo, the company’s new sales and production division, with Ana Bustamente coming on board as managing director.

Barrois will continue with his current role as CEO of Mediaset España’s film production arm Telecinco Cinema, in addition to his new position.

Mediterráneo was formed in response to growing demand for Spanish-language programming and integrates Mediaset España’s associated producers—including Telecinco Cinema, Megamedia, Supersport, La Fábrica de la Tele, Bulldog, Unicorn Content, Mandarina Producciones, Alma Producciones and Alea Media—under one umbrella in order to better distribute content worldwide.

Silvia Cotino will serve as the company’s director of sales and business development. International channel CincoMAS will also be joining Mediterráneo; the channel will be headed up by Yolanda Giordani.

Mediterráneo will present Mediaset España’s content offerings at MIPTV in April. Their catalog includes shows like Patria and Vivir sin Permiso, as well as formats Supervivientes, Sálvame and Cuarto Milenio, among others.

Paolo Vasile, CEO of Mediaset España, said: “The ‘Mediterranean’ of Mediaset España equally seeks to add more talent and the most varied forms of creativity, developed by our associated producers in cinema, television, sports and digital content, to reach the world of communication with their proposals for audiovisual, multimedia and multiplatform content.”

“Mediterráneo is launched with three very defined objectives: to optimize costs and to increase the income from sales and distribution both in Spain and abroad; to reinforce the access of this network of producers to international formats and markets and promote the development of new initiatives in digital and television productions,” said Massimo Musolino, general operations manager of Mediaset España.

Bustamante added: “Mediterráneo is being launched at a time when the audio-visual market is emerging to face the challenge of creating and distributing all types of content for both its own and third-party platforms and channels. With its creation, we seek to unite all the creativity and strength of all the group’s associated producers, taking advantage of the diversity and specialization of these content generating companies, with the commercial power, visibility and international presence of a leading group such as Mediaset España.”
