Mediapro Agrees to Pay €1.05 Billion a Year for Serie A TV Rights

The Italian Serie A league has accepted Mediapro’s offer for domestic TV rights to matches for the 2018-21 seasons for 1.05 billion euros ($1.3 billion) a year.

“The offer of 1,050,001,000 euros is superior to the minimum requested in the invitation to tender,” Lega Serie A said in a statement. The Italian league had previously rejected the offers made by Sky and Mediaset at the end of January, turning down the total amount of 830 million euros.

The league will now take the offer for the three seasons to the Italian antitrust authority before it can proceed with officially assigning the rights.

Sky is petitioning that the bid is inadmissible, though, since Mediapro presented an offer exclusively for “independent intermediaries,” but would not operate as such since it’s a communications group.
