Sky 1 Commissions Roughcut TV Comedy Carters Get Rich

LONDON: Sky 1 has ordered Roughcut TV’s brand-new comedy series Carters Get Rich, featuring James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek).

The six-part comedy is slated to premiere this fall on Sky 1. It tells the story of 11-year-old Harry Carter, a geeky kid who creates an app called Honc to help boys who don’t know how to talk to girls. He becomes a multi-millionaire when his app is purchased by U.S. billionaire Trent Zebrisky, portrayed by Van Der Beek. Harry’s father, who is content with his family’s simple existence, tries to keep his two kids and wife in line as the cash comes rolling in. The series also stars Rhashan Stone, Kerry Godliman, John Finnemore and Rhianna Merralls.

Carters Get Rich was commissioned by Jon Mountague, the head of comedy for Sky. The series is executive produced by Roughcut TV’s Ash Atalla, alongside producer Alex Smith. It is directed by Chris Cottam and written by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis.

Adam MacDonald, the director of Sky 1, said, “I can’t wait to share this thoroughly modern sitcom on Sky 1. Funny and fresh, the unstoppable Carter family put the ‘social’ in ‘social media’ and the ‘O.L.’ in ‘L.O.L.’ It’s a Honc-ing good show with a Honc-ing good cast!”

Ash Atalla, the managing director at Roughcut TV, commented, “We’re very proud of this new series for Sky 1 and it’s a fantastic example of Roughcut TV’s ability to create a range of modern and mainstream sitcoms with international appeal. The team is thrilled to further build on our longstanding relationship with Sky and deliver another exciting new show for the broadcaster.”

Alex Smith, producer for Roughcut TV, added, “Carters Get Rich features one of those families we all know as they go through an extraordinary life-changing experience. The show offers an interesting portrayal of how we might all go a bit bonkers if your 11-year-old is given millions of pounds.”
