STOCKHOLM: Modern Times Group (MTG) has landed the rights to air all matches from the UEFA Champions League in Finland for three years on Viaplay and Viasat Sport Finland.

Starting with the 2015-16 season, the brand-new Viasat Sport Finland channel will show key matches live, with local commentary, every Tuesday and Wednesday match day in the group and knock-out rounds, as well as the Saturday final. Viasat Sport Finland will serve as MTG’s flagship sports channel in the country. In addition to football, the network will air live ice hockey matches from the NHL and KHL.

Subscribers to the online Viaplay streaming service will be able to select from all matches.

The rights have been acquired via TEAM Marketing, which is UEFA’s worldwide agent for the exploitation of commercial rights to the UEFA Champions League.

Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, MTG’s president and CEO, said, “We have shown the world’s best international club football competition in Scandinavia for over 20 years, and we’re really excited about providing Finnish viewers with the best coverage ever of the competition on all screens. UEFA Champions League football is a great addition to our exclusive NHL and KHL ice hockey rights in Finland.”

He added, “We have deepened our relationship and cooperation with UEFA and TEAM and are proud to have secured the UEFA Champions League rights for a new market.”
