LONDON: BBC Worldwide has named Grant Welland as executive VP for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CEMA), reporting to Paul Dempsey, the company's president of global markets.

Welland has held the role on an acting basis since the departure of Ian McDonough in April. Based in London, Welland is tasked with oversight for all of BBC Worldwide's sales activities across CEMA. He is responsible for all business lines, including channels, TV and digital sales, format sales, licensing and live events.

Dempsey said: “There is a real pleasure in being able to promote from within when the candidate has proved themselves to be the best for the job. That’s been the case with Grant whose financial acumen and detailed knowledge of our customers’ needs make him the ideal leader to take the businesses in CEMA to the next level.”

Welland added: “BBC Worldwide is a world-class organization and I’m delighted and proud to take on the role of executive vice president. The region is a high priority for the company and I am looking forward to working with the team to grow the business over the next few years in one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting regions.”
