New CEO at Sweden’s SVT

STOCKHOLM: Hanna Stjärne has been named CEO of the Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Stjärne currently serves as editor-in-chief and CEO at the publishing group UNT. She will take up her new position as SVT’s CEO within six months. Stjärne has had several executive positions in the public service radio company Sveriges Radio, among others as programming director with responsibility for Sveriges Radio’s total offering.

"I am honored and glad of being appointed CEO at SVT. The public’s strong confidence in Sweden’s most important media company is manifested in the fact that SVT reaches nine out of ten Swedes every week," said Stjärne. "These are transformative times in the media business and I am looking forward to taking SVT’s next step, together with the staff. To this I bring a vast experience in programming development, a strong digital background, and a deep knowledge about the transformation of the media landscape, both within public service and on the commercial side."

Anna-Karin Celsing, chairman of the board at SVT, added, "I am very pleased with being able to present Hanna Stjärne as SVT’s new CEO. She is an experienced publisher with a deep understanding of public service. At the same time Hanna Stjärne has gained valuable experience of other aspects of the media business during her years at UNT. This will be of great benefit for SVT in the transformation that the media industry is expected to undergo in the upcoming years."
