U.K. TV Tax Credits Delivered £158 Million in Foreign Investment

LONDON: The U.K. received £158 million ($260.3 million) in international investment in high-end TV shows and animation since new tax credits were introduced in April 2013.

From April through December 2013, nine high-end TV projects originating outside of the U.K., including Game of Thrones, Da Vinci’s Demons and Elementary, delivered £149.9 million ($247 million) to the country, according to data from BFI. Domestic spending on high-end TV production was £83.2 million ($137 million) over 19 projects. There were three high-end TV co-productions.

On the animation side, domestic spend was £34.6 million ($57 million) over 17 projects, while inward investment was £7.8 million ($12.9 million) on four projects. There were two animation co-productions made in the U.K. in the period.
