AMSTERDAM: Ziggo, the largest cable operator in the Netherlands, has rejected a takeover offer from Liberty Global.

"The potential offer was considered inadequate and there is no certainty that Ziggo will receive any revised offer," the company said in a statement.

Liberty Global holds 28.5 percent of Ziggo. According to an SEC filing, Liberty Global made the takeover offer to Ziggo in August.

Liberty Global already owns the Netherlands' second-largest cable provider, UPC. It began acquiring Ziggo shares earlier this year.
