Telefónica Launches Production Studio

MADRID: Telefónica has unveiled the production entity Telefónica Studios, which plans to produce 25 films and TV series over the next three years.

Telefónica Studios' projects will be aimed at the Euopean and Latin American markets as well as English-speaking markets. The initial output will be between ten to twelve films a year and several TV series. The studio has already established relationships with a number of filmmakers and productions companies, including Juan José Campanella, Pedro Almodóvar, Viggo Mortensen, Gael García Bernal, Jorge Drexler, Alejandro González-Iñárritu, Emilio Aragón, Alberto Amman, José Coronado and Rodrigo Cortés, among others. It also enters into co-productions with some of the leading partners in each region, such as Tele 5, TVE, Antena 3, El Deseo, 100 Bares, Plural, Nostromo Films and K&S, Historias and Tornasol.

As for TV series, the company already participated in the production of Isabel, now beginning its second season, and Love in Turbulent Times (Amar en Tiempos Revueltos). The plans are to make series for Telefónica’s pay-TV channels (Movistar TV and Movistar Play) from 2014.
