LONDON: Universal Networks International has secured carriage for the flagship Universal Channel in Germany, where it will launch in September on Sky Deutschland and Deutsche Telecom.

Universal Channel is currently seen in 103 countries around the world, delivered in 16 languages. The German launch comes shortly after UNI unveiled a fresh character-focused positioning for the channel, which has a new look, logo and the tagline 100% Characters.

“The German launch of Universal Channel—our flagship channel brand—is an exciting milestone for Universal Networks International as we focus on the strategic growth of our channels’ portfolio in key markets around the world,” said Belinda Menendez, the president of international television distribution and Universal Networks International. “This launch and our overall investment in Universal Channel, underscores the brand’s key role as a portfolio driver in our channels’ business and our long-term commitment to its success.”

"Universal Channel will be a very welcome addition to Universal Networks International’s portfolio of successful channels in the German-speaking world,” commented Katharina Behrends, the managing director of UNI for Germany. “Airing alongside Syfy, 13th Street and E! Entertainment Television, Universal Channel’s character-driven entertainment broadens UNI’s offering in Germany and Austria, delivering viewers even more compelling choice—in both HD and SD; we are delighted to be bringing the channel to subscribers of Sky Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom and look forward to further broadening Universal Channel’s distribution.”
