Package Deal for BBC Worldwide in Bulgaria

BUDAPEST: BBC Worldwide has licensed a package of 90 hours of programming, spanning several genres, to Bulgarian National Television (BNT), Heike Renner, the company’s territory manager, reveals to World Screen Newsflash.

Included in the deal were seasons one and two of Sherlock, which has now been licensed into more than 200 territories around the world. The Bulgarian public broadcaster also picked up Frozen Planet, which has been licensed into 169 territories.

The dramas Great Expectations, Torchwood: Miracle Day and season ten of Spooks were part of the package. The Diamond Queen, a series celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, and the doc Modern Spies are headed to Bulgaria as well. From BBC Worldwide’s music catalogue, the package included Beyoncé: Live at Roseland and Leona Lewis: The Labyrinth Tour—Live at the O2.

“It’s been another great year for us in Central and Eastern Europe,” Renner, the territory manager for Eastern and Central Europe and CIS at BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution, told World Screen Newsflash. “Our ongoing relationships with broadcasters like BNT are the bedrock of that success. We look forward to continuing to work with BNT to bring our top titles to Bulgarian viewers.”
