Ofcom Investigating Sky News Over Email Hacking

LONDON: Ofcom is starting an investigation into the unauthorized accessing of private emails by Sky News.

The news channel previously admitted that it illegally went into the emails of John Darwin, the "canoe man," who was accused of faking his own death in an insurance scam with his wife. The broadcaster also admitted to accessing the email account of a suspected pedophile. Sky News is saying that it acted in the public interest, as the information was shared with police.

A spokesman for Ofcom said: "Ofcom is investigating the fairness and privacy issues raised by Sky News’ statement that it had accessed without prior authorization private email accounts during the course of its news investigations.”
