MIPTV Reports Increased Registration from Producers

PARIS: The number of production companies currently registered for MIPTV is up 25 percent on the year prior, and of the 1,220 international production outfits registered to date, 326 are first-time attendees.

MIPTV is offering a number of dedicated events and conferences for producers. This includes the Drama CoProXchange and the Producers’ Hub. The Drama CoProXchange kicks off on Sunday, April 1. The first invitation-only Drama CoProXchange Summit will bring together 50 international commissioners, producers and deal-brokers involved in co-production for two hours of semi-instructed networking. The following day, the CoProXchange program includes a Creative Speaking session with the famed British writer and producer Paul Abbott. Several case studies will be presented, including a spotlight on the upcoming drama Top of the Lake. The program also features a Commissioning Strategies session, in which leading broadcasters will reveal their commissioning plans for the year.

The Producers’ Hub will host a cocktail on April 1 at 5:30 p.m., open to all producers attending MIPTV. A series of how-to workshops are also set for the four days of MIPTV. These will cover negotiating deals, pitching, commissioning, drama co-pro funding, kids’ programming, digital business and distribution, factual and doc production and regional funding opportunities.

“Producers increasingly need international financial partners and funding,” said Laurine Garaude, the director of the television division at Reed MIDEM. They will find both again this year at the world’s largest TV market event, as production remains at the heart of MIPTV 2012.”
