Sky Italia Expands HD Offerings

MILAN: Sky Italia is rolling out 13 additional high-definition channels on February 1, bringing its total HD slate to 52.

More than 70 percent of the platform’s 5 million subscribers are signed up for the HD service, Sky Italia said. The new additions as of next month include Extreme Sports Channel HD and MTV Live HD, plus Fox Life, Real Time, Eurosport2, ESPN America—carrying the upcoming U.S. football Super Bowl—Discovery Science, Discovery Travel&Living, History, Nat Geo Wild, Gambero Rosso and Disney Channel.

Also on February 1, Nat Geo Adventure will be available only in its HD version, with the SD edition being switched off.

Sky started offering HD transmissions in 2006 with the Champions League final match between Arsenal and Barcelona.
