Van Der Valk Season Two in Production

The second season of the detective series Van Der Valk has begun production in Amsterdam.

Marc Warren reprises his role as Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk, and Maimie McCoy, Luke Allen-Gale, Elliot Barnes-Worrell, Darrell D’Silva and Emma Fielding all return to their respective roles.

Michele Buck is executive producer for Company Pictures, and Chris Murray returns as lead writer and showrunner.

All3Media International is again working with partners ARD Degeto in Germany, Masterpiece in the U.S., ITV in the U.K. and NPO in the Netherlands.

Buck, CEO at Company Pictures, commented: “We are so excited to have begun production on the second series of Van der Valk and look forward to building on the warmth, humor and camaraderie of the team with another series of suspenseful stories.”

Murray commented: “Against the bustling backdrop of the stunning city of Amsterdam, Van Der Valk and his team will continue to investigate and solve compelling murder mysteries in this latest season. Storylines explored will include an explosive battle between an alternative community and the city’s establishment, the dysfunction of a family at the heart of the city’s historic diamond industry, and sexual exploitation within the world of classical music that goes right to the top.”

Louise Pedersen, CEO at All3Media International, stated: “We’re delighted to partner with ARD Degeto, Masterpiece, ITV and NPO on Company Pictures’ second season of this wonderful international co-production. Audiences around the world have taken Piet Van Der Valk and his team to their hearts and we all can’t wait to see them back in action in the beautiful setting of Amsterdam.”

Sebastian Lückel, head of acquisitions and co-productions at ARD Degeto, added: “Van Der Valk is a fantastic, modern crime series with wonderful characters—a drama that creator Chris Murray has infused with heart and humor. We are pleased that production has started in Amsterdam and that Marc Warren and the rest of the congenial cast will solve even more exciting cases in the second season.”
