Netflix Slates New Shondaland Murder Mystery

Netflix has slated the premiere of The Residence, an eight-episode murder mystery from Shondaland, for March 20.

Set in the White House, the series centers on Cordelia Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department who is known for her wry humor and relentless pursuit of the truth, and Edwin Park, a special agent of the FBI who is tasked with partnering with Cupp during a high-stakes state dinner despite being skeptical of her methods.

Uzo Aduba stars as Cupp alongside Randall Park as Park. The cast also features Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Mary Wiseman, among others.

Guest stars include Eliza Coupe, Jane Curtin, Paul Fitzgerald, Barrett Foa, Al Franken, Spencer Garrett, Taran Killam, Julian McMahon, Kylie Minogue, Matt Oberg and Brett Tucker.

The Residence is created and written by showrunner Paul William Davies (Scandal, For the People), who also executives roduces alongside Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers. It is inspired by the book of the same name by Kate Andersen Bower.

“The Residence is honestly a lot of things,” Davies said. “It’s funny, it’s suspenseful, it’s clever; it’s totally farcical in places, it’s genuinely romantic in others. As a murder mystery, what I think really makes it fresh and unique is Cordelia Cupp. She’s just special.”

Aduba added, “What makes Cordelia part of the catalog of Shondaland heroines is that she’s strong, she doesn’t mince words, she’s unapologetically herself. This case is unsolvable to everyone except Cordelia Cupp.”
