European Alliance Crowns Latest Call for Projects Winner

The European Alliance has awarded The Emperor’s Stone: The Search of La Buse’s Treasure as the newest Call for Projects winner.

From producers Nolita, Aircraft Pictures and Film Afrika, The Emperor’s Stone is described as a family adventure series similar to Indiana Jones and in the footsteps of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Da Vinci Code. The six-parter will follow modern-day treasure hunter Théo Levasseur, who discovers the diary of his famed ancestor: the real-life French pirate Olivier “La Buse” Levasseur.

Aircraft Pictures and Film Afrika initially developed the project with the financial support of the Canada Media Fund and South Africa’s National Film and Video Foundation, working with executive producers Benjamin Anderson and Gina Marcheschi to prepare the project for the global marketplace.

The European Alliance production pool was formed by France Télévisions, ZDF and Rai to finance innovative TV series. The European Alliance has now produced more than ten premium TV series covering a wide range of genres, including Mirage, Germinal, 80 Days Around the World, Leonardo, Survivors, The Swarm, The Reunion and soon The Gymnasts, Concordia, In Her Car and The Kollective.

“We are incredibly excited to be working with the European Alliance in bringing this jam-packed adventure series to life,” said Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen, co-founders of Aircraft Pictures. “This project holds a special place in our hearts and with support from our incredible partners Nolita and Film Afrika, we look forward to capturing the imagination of families while keeping them on the edge of their seats.”

“We are extremely proud and excited to be working with the European Alliance on our first international series of unparalleled ambition for Nolita,” said Mathieu Ageron, one of Nolita’s three partners. “This international collaboration with renowned partners Aircraft Pictures and Film Afrika is, for us, the assurance of creating a high-quality series that appeals to the widest possible audience, both challenging and popular.”

“Film Afrika is delighted to be collaborating with such esteemed production partners from France and Canada, and we are particularly honored to have France Télévisions, Rai and ZDF as our broadcast partners,” said David Wicht, CEO of Film Afrika. “The French-South African co-production treaty was recently extended to audiovisual projects, and The Emperor’s Stone could be the first major series to be made under the treaty.”
