Video: The Dreamer: Becoming Karen Blixen’s Connie Nielsen

The story of one woman’s struggle to find her place in life while freeing herself from the expectations of family and society plays out in The Dreamer: Becoming Karen Blixen. The series, a Viaplay original by Zentropa Entertainments, takes place in the 1930s and follows Blixen’s return to Denmark after many years in East Africa, from her lowest point to becoming a renowned writer.

Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) stars as Karen Blixen in the series, which she also executive produces. Dunja Gry Jensen (Norskov) serves as creator, and Jeanette Nordahl (Wildland) directs. The Dreamer: Becoming Karen Blixen is based on an idea by Nielsen and Karoline Leth.

In this video interview with TV Drama Weekly’s Mansha Daswani, Nielsen talks about the journey to bring this story to the screen. She also discusses the opportunities streaming platforms like Viaplay have created to bring Scandinavian stories to a wider global audience.
