Movistar Plus+ & ARTE Co-Pro Begins Production

Filming has begun for Movistar Plus+’s Matar a un oso (Killing a Bear), co-produced with ARTE France.

Created by brothers Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, the original Movistar Plus+ six-episode series is a co-production with ARTE France and in collaboration with STUDIO TF1’s Kubik Films.

Inspired by real events, the series charts the investigation that begins after the mysterious death of a bear, Cachou, in the Aran Valley, bringing to light deep tensions between the inhabitants of the valley, environmentalism and European policies.

“The story of the bear Cachou is a multi-layered case,” said Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo in a joint statement. “What seemed like a surreal event became a complex portrait of the clash between the local and the global, tradition and the present. It is a real privilege to work with the actors and actresses who are part of this project, as well as with the usual Kubik Films team, who motivate us to take on the challenge that this series represents.”

Matar a un oso stars Eduard Fernández, María Rodríguez Soto, Miki Esparbé, Pol López, Nora Navas and Àlex Monner and is based on real events.

Matar a un oso is a story that is as unexpected as it is real,” the brothers continued. “Each point of view brings us closer to a conflict that speaks of identity, the environment and the latent violence in coexistence. We are delighted to be working with Movistar Plus+ again; we feel that this project is tailor-made for a platform that is committed to ambitious and unique series such as this one.”
