Escapade Media has joined Storyfirst and Hipster Films’ new drama Grassroots as an executive producer.

Created by John Godber and written by Elizabeth Godber, Jane Thornton and Nicola Quilter, Grassroots sees a women’s rugby league team and an English community come together around the sport they all love in a post-Brexit and post-Covid world.

The series is executive produced by Dominic Barlow (A Discovery of Witches, The Crash).

In addition to producing, Escapade Media holds rights for the series in the AsiaPac region.

“This is a project that we are all very passionate about, and we are thrilled and excited to be working in partnership with StoryFirst and Escapade,” said Jo Lewis, producer at Hipster Films.

Peter Gerwe, manager at Storyfirst, added, “We love this project—the Friday Night Lights for women’s rugby. John has done a fabulous job with the pilot script, and we can’t wait to get this into production. We are very pleased to be working again with Escapade and see a bright future for our partnership.”

“This series is so timely, and with the incredible creative team behind it, we are very excited to bring this series to market across the Asia Pacific,” commented Natalie Lawley, managing director of Escapade Media. “Storyfirst create premium original scripted content, and it is a real privilege to be working with them.”
