Cineflix Rights has signed presale deals with the Nordic broadcasters SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), Yle (Finland) and TV2 (Denmark) for its crime procedural Whitstable Pearl.

Produced by Buccaneer Media for AMC Networks’ Acorn TV, Whitstable Pearl is set in the English seaside town of Whitstable, home to Pearl Nolan (Kerry Godliman; Derek, After Life), who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood delicacies in her restaurant and solving the crimes, debauchery and murder regularly brought in by the tide. Alongside Pearl is DI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles; The Musketeers) as her on-off rival and love interest.

The series is based on Julie Wassmer’s much-loved novels and was created and written by Norwegian filmmaker Øystein Karlsen (Exit, Dag, Lilyhammer).

James Durie, head of scripted at Cineflix Rights, said: “Whitstable Pearl is an absorbing drama that arrives on the market at the perfect time. Combining the classic themes of a British crime procedural with a slightly subversive tone, it is fresh, witty, and romantic, but often deadly. Nobody who watches Whitstable Pearl will ever think about a British seaside holiday in the same way! By combining Øystein Karlsen’s masterly writing with an exceptional performance by Kerry Godliman, the brilliant production team at Buccaneer has created something very special with a lot of international appeal. We’re thrilled that the series has early backing from such strong partners in the Nordics as we start showcasing it to our global buyers.”
