Disney+ Begins Production on The Koreans

Production has begun on The Koreans, a reimagining of the FX series The Americans, for Disney+ and Hulu.

Set during the democratization and modernization of South Korea in the early 1990s, The Koreans will follow a seemingly ordinary middle-class family who are actually elite North Korean spies working to bring down the South from within. Lee Byunghun (Squid Game) and Han Jimin (Heavenly Ever After) are set to star in the lead roles.

The Koreans is being directed by Ahn Gilho (The Glory) and adapted by Park Eunkyo (Made In Korea, Mother). It is being produced by IMAGINUS and Studio AA.

The Americans was originally created by Joe Weisberg, who was also the showrunner alongside Joel Fields. It starred Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and won the Golden Globe for best drama series. The full FX series is available to stream on Hulu.

The Koreans will stream exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the U.S.
