EPIX Greenlights Belgravia: The Next Chapter

EPIX, which is rebranding as MGM+ in January, has ordered the eight-part series Belgravia: The Next Chapter (w.t.), a continuation of the hit historical drama Belgravia.

The new series will pick up in 1865, 25 years after the events depicted in the 2020 series, which was written by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age). Belgravia: The Next Chapter, written by Helen Edmundson (Dalgliesh, Mary Magdalene), will tell the love story of Frederick Trenchard and his new love interest, Clara Dunn, a newcomer to London society.

Belgravia: The Next Chapter reunites Fellowes with Carnival Films’ creative team, led by Gareth Neame. Fellowes and Neame will serve as executive producers alongside Carnival’s Nigel Marchant and Joanna Stevens. Helen Edmunson serves as showrunner and executive producer. John Alexander (Small Island), who directed the original series, is lead director and executive producer. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve), who produced the original series, will return as producer.

Filming on the eight-part series will begin early next year, with a premiere set for winter 2023. It is a co-production between Carnival Films and EPIX Studios and will be distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution.

“With its cinematic scope, emotionally engaging story and artistic production that brings the time period to life, Belgravia: The Next Chapter is an immersive story that will keep viewers riveted,” said Michael Wright, president of EPIX. “We can’t wait to see what Julian, Helen Edmundson and Carnival have in store for our audience.”
