CBC is launching a new slate of content for young adults ages 13 to 24 on the CBC Gem streaming service, including the original series Warigami.

Produced in partnership with The CW, First Love Films and New Form, Warigami is a contemporary samurai saga that stars Emily Piggford (The Girlfriend Experience). The new slate will also feature four short films produced as part of the CBC New Indigenous Voices training program, presented by the National Screen Institute: Dead Bolt, Forgotten, Nappy Hair & Eagle Feather and Star Line.

CBC will continue to add new original series to the slate each month, with seasons one and two of drama Ackley Bridge, four seasons of Mr. Student Body President, seasons one through three of My Mad Fat Diary and all episodes of Replay, Jade of Death and Shitty Boyfriends starting to stream on CBC Gem over the next several weeks. Set for 2020, Utopia Falls, produced in partnership with Sonar Entertainment, is a young adult sci-fi drama infused with dance and music with music producer Boi-1da serving as executive producer on the series.

Gave Lindo, executive director of OTT programming at CBC, said: “Our new slate of programming for young adults will help us build stronger relationships with a broader range of Canadians by providing them with content that reflects their interests and perspectives and is available to stream whenever and wherever they want.”
