SANTA MONICA: Sea to Sky Entertainment, a joint venture between Lionsgate and Thunderbird Films, has tapped Brett Burlock, formerly the head of development for CTV, as its VP of creative affairs.

Burlock is based in Toronto, joining Sea to Sky as it increases its efforts to become a full-service studio alternative for Canadian networks. During his time with CTV, Burlock was essential in driving the ratings success of the network’s original productions, including Flashpoint, The Borgias, The Bridge and Saving Hope.

Sea to Sky already has a number of projects in the works, including a series based on the novels Gone Baby Gone and a limited series based on the book An Uncommon Youth.

“Brett is a highly creative executive with excellent industry relationships and an impressive track record in developing exciting material for television,” said Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate’s television group. “We anticipate a great collaboration as we work together to diversify and expand our imprint in Canada.”

“Brett’s hiring represents a great opportunity for us to continue our push into the cross-border and international co-production space. As business models continue to emerge and evolve, Sea to Sky is extremely well-positioned to help bring the next generation of hits to our networks,” added Tim Gamble, the CEO of Thunderbird Films.

Burlock added, “I look forward to working with the accomplished people at Lionsgate and Thunderbird to attract the best talent and help foster innovative and compelling content for our network partners in Canada, the U.S. and internationally.”
