Eureka! Media, which operates the Canadian English-language SVOD service AeroCinema, has acquired France’s aviation channel Aerostar TV.

The French-language channel is distributed by France’s three major telephony services: Orange, Free and Bouygues, reaching a user base of over 16 million. The programming ranges from adventure sports flying to historical aviation.

This acquisition builds on a previous partnership that last year saw AeroCinema and Aerostar TV enter a strategic alliance in the areas of content production and channel distribution, creating the first transatlantic partnership to bring together the producers of original aviation-themed content.

Bernard Chabbert, one of Aerostar TV’s founders and a celebrity in French aviation, joins the company’s new board. Christian Amara, who created France’s Flying Warbirds, also becomes a member of the board.

Phil Osborn, Eureka! Media’s owner and CEO, said: “This is a big step forward for both companies, as our goals have ultimately been to reach a worldwide audience across all markets and platforms. Aviation and space are not only growth industries, but represent one of the finest of human endeavors.”
