CBC has renewed Mark Critch’s Son of a Critch for a second season following its season one debut as the most-watched homegrown comedy in Canada.

Produced by Project 10 Productions and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television, the series is based on Critch’s best-selling memoir Son of a Critch, detailing his coming-of-age in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in the ’80s.

The series was created by Critch (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Tim McAuliffe (The Office, Last Man on Earth, MacGruber) and produced by Schitt’s Creek Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning producer Andrew Barnsley.

Son of a Critch debuted in Canada on January 4, ranking as the number-one scripted program on CBC for the 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34 demographics. It also garnered CBC’s highest rating for a comedy premiere since Kim’s Convenience’s debut in 2016.

Lionsgate handles worldwide distribution rights for the series outside of Canada.
