TORONTO: Bell Media is making a yearly commitment of C$1 million to an accelerator lab that will serve as a way to bolster the advancement and skills of qualified TV producers in Canada.

The Bell Media Producer Accelerator Lab provides emerging TV producers across Canada with the chance to gain hands-on experience at both Bell Media and at other leading production companies. This is meant to assist them in advancing their careers within Canada’s TV industry. Bell Media has a number of other TV skills development initiatives in place, providing overall funding of up to C$1.8 million each year. This includes the Bell Media Diverse Screenwriters Program, the Bell Media Primetime TV Program, the Media Leadership Program and Totally Television.

“Canadian television production is burning more brightly than ever. With our stated goal to feature prestige Canadian programming in prime time on CTV on every night of the week, and as we continue to commission more and more original content on our specialty channels, there is an increasing need to fuel the fire with even more accomplished producers,” said Kevin Crull, the president of Bell Media. “Today’s announcement is an investment in the future of Canadian production.”

“There is momentum in Canadian development and production right now, and the Accelerator Lab will help propel it further forward,” added Corrie Coe, the senior VP of independent production at Bell Media. “We hope to help set the stage for next period of growth in our industry.”
