Turner Scores Astro Carriage for Oh!K

KUALA LUMPUR: Turner Broadcasting's new Korean entertainment channel Oh!K has joined the lineup of Astro in Malaysia, where it will deliver drama and variety programming with selected series airing less than a day after their original broadcast.

The HD channel features a range of Korean content with English and Chinese subtitles as well as audio options in original Korean language, and selected programs dubbed in Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia. Astro is offering a free preview of the channel until the end of February, after which time it will be available as part of the Korean Pack. The Malaysian debut for Astro follows rollouts in Singapore on Singtel last month and on StarHub TV in October 2014.

Phil Nelson, Turner’s senior VP and managing director of North Asia and Southeast Asia Pacific, said: “Turner’s leading brands—CNN and Cartoon Network—have been key news and kids' channels in Astro’s portfolio for years, so we can’t wait to delight Malaysian audiences with Oh!K, our latest general-entertainment channel. Since its regional debut last year, Oh!K has already gained strong popularity, with some of the very best Korean drama and variety series airing within 24 hours of their original telecast.”

Agnes Rozario, the VP of the content management group at Astro, commented, “Oh!K HD offers the best and latest MBC content from Korea. Oh!K will broadcast shows on the same day as Korea, ensuring that Astro remains the easiest and fastest way for customers to watch their favorite Korean shows. We’re confident that this new HD channel will be well received by our customers watching on TV or AOTG on desktop, tablet or smartphone.”
