AUCKLAND: SKY in New Zealand has secured a long-term pipeline of movies from NBCUniversal International Distribution for broadcast on its pay-TV service and on its SVOD platform.

Customers of SKY Movies and the SVOD platform NEON will be able to access titles like Jurassic World, Ted 2, Minions, Pitch Perfect 2, Trainwreck, Ex Machina and Steve Jobs. The upcoming Bourne film and Fifty Shades Darker will also be available exclusively to SKY. NEON will have exclusive SVOD rights in New Zealand to all new NBCUniversal titles simultaneously with SKY Movies.

“We are delighted to have renewed our deal with one of our longest standing movie partners, particularly coming off the back of a year that has seen Universal Pictures notch up the highest grossing worldwide box office year in cinematic history,” said Lisa Clements, SKY’s head of acquisitions, entertainment and movies. “Not only will our SKY Movies customers be able to access these great titles and more across our platforms, but our NEON subscribers will also get exclusive access to the newest hits and a premium selection of recent library titles from Universal Pictures such as Jurassic World and Fast & Furious 7 in this market.”

Travis Dunbar, director of entertainment content at SKY, added, “For more than 100 years, Universal Pictures has been at the cutting edge of their industry, continually enjoying major successes with a diverse range of titles; from all-audience event films from Illumination Entertainment such as Despicable Me to unforgettable drama, and action films like those in the Bourne franchise. They’ve released multiple Oscar-winning films, movies that make you think, movies that you can escape in, not to mention some of the most anticipated soon-to-be-released films on the planet. The portfolio from this iconic studio literally offers something for everyone.”

Belinda Menendez, president of NBCUniversal International Distribution & Networks, added, “We are pleased to extend our partnership with SKY, which ensures that our outstanding portfolio of feature films will continue to find their home in New Zealand on SKY’s broadcast platforms, in addition to streaming on NEON, for many years to come.”
