BALI: Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Asia is adding a trio of new Asia original commissions to the MTV and Comedy Central channels in the region.

August will see the debut of Comedy Central Presents Stand-Up Asia, the first Asia original for Comedy Central Asia. The eight-part show features stand-up from some of the best comedians in the region. It is co-produced with LOL Events in Malaysia.

“We share Comedy Central Asia’s vision to provide great entertainment and laughter to audiences via comedy and are thrilled to be able to reach new fans who may not be exposed to some of the amazing comedic talents we have in Asia,” said Rizal Kamal, the CEO of LOL Events.

There are also two new MTV programs, OK Danceoke and MTV Asia Spotlight. The former is a music video show that teaches iconic dance steps, while the latter is a monthly series focused on popular and up-and-coming acts from Asia. Both programs are being produced in Singapore and will launch later this year.

Paras Sharma, the senior VP of MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Channel brands and digital media for Asia, added: “We’re delighted to offer new regional content on MTV and Comedy Central. MTV Asia Spotlight will allow us to continue to elevate more Asian artists on a regional platform and grow the awareness and appreciation of Asian music for fans around the region to enjoy. We’re particularly thrilled we’re embarking on our first Asia stand-up in collaboration with LOL Events, which enables us to promote local comedy and place a spotlight on talented comedians from around Asia.”
