BBC Worldwide Asia and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Asia have inked new deals with CANAL+ Myanmar that will see some of their networks airing in the country.

Four of BBC Worldwide Asia’s channels will premiere on the new pay-TV platform CANAL+—BBC World News (HARDtalk, Our World), BBC Earth (Blue Planet II, Dara & Ed’s Road to Mandalay, Where the Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle), CBeebies (Hey Duggee, Go Jetters, Sarah & Duck) and BBC Lifestyle (The Great British Bake Off, The Graham Norton Show)—with the latter debuting for the first time in Myanmar.

“We are very pleased to partner [with] CANAL+ to be part of Myanmar’s rapid economic growth,” remarked Myleeta Aga, the senior VP for South and Southeast Asia at BBC Worldwide. “We are confident that our channels will inform, inspire, educate and resonate with viewers in the country.”

VIMN Asia’s multiyear agreement with CANAL+ Myanmar includes the launch of MTV, MTV Live and Nickelodeon in the country last week.

Paras Sharma, the senior VP and general manager for Southeast Asia at VIMN, noted: “This collaboration not only deepens our presence in Myanmar but underscores our status as a strong media content provider in the country, especially as high growth is expected in Myanmar’s pay-TV market through to 2021.”

“The MTV and Nickelodeon brands have strong appeal and supplement our current portfolio, as well as demonstrate our commitment to deliver the premium entertainment from music to kids’ content to our subscriber base,” added Erwan Luherne, the CEO of CANAL+ Myanmar.
