SINGAPORE: Mitsubishi Electric Asia has signed on as the key broadcast sponsor for Planet Earth II in the region.

Mitsubishi Electric Asia is also the inaugural sponsor on the BBC Earth channel in Asia. Shot in UHD, Planet Earth II is a sequel to the BBC’s natural-history series Planet Earth. It is narrated by Sir David Attenborough. Mitsubishi Electric Asia’s sponsorship will reach multiple consumer touch points via BBC Earth and Planet Earth II marketing channels, including on-air promotions, billboards, bumpers and program idents. Customized vignettes will showcase Mitsubishi Electric’s products, as well as banner ads on the BBC Asia Planet Earth II microsite and in the new BBC Earth magazine.

“We are very excited to be sponsoring Planet Earth II on BBC Earth,” said Shinji Sasaki, managing director of Mitsubishi Electric Asia. “Our corporate statement ‘Changes for the Better’ reflects our drive to always seek improvement, and Mitsubishi Electric’s environmental statement ‘Eco Changes’ represents our efforts to work together with our customers and partners to improve the global environment. These values fall in line with Planet Earth II, which will give viewers the ultimate portrait of the earth, and focuses on the habitats on land, bringing audiences an experience of what it is like to live in these great wildernesses on this amazing planet. This perfectly lines up with our belief and ethos that Eco Changes will protect and sustain our planet and all life for future generations to come.”

“We are elated that Mitsubishi Electric Asia has come on board,” said Monty Ghai, the senior VP and general manager of Southeast Asia at BBC Worldwide. “When Planet Earth came out a decade ago, it transformed how viewers saw their planet. It was the first natural-history series to be filmed in high definition, and it captivated a global audience of over half a billion people by giving them an unprecedented view of life on Planet Earth. And now we have Planet Earth II which promises to give viewers the most immersive wildlife documentary experience to date.”

Planet Earth II will premiere exclusively on BBC Earth in Asia. In Asia, BBC Earth is available in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand. In Singapore, it is also available on the BBC Player app to StarHub’s pay-TV subscribers with the basic education tier to watch and download for up to 30 days.
