Mad About You Being Remade in China

BEIJING: Huaso Film/TV Digital Production, the joint-venture production company of Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and CCTV6’s HuaCheng Pictures, has inked a deal with Croton Media to co-produce a local version of the hit '90s comedy Mad About You in China.

The agreement marks the first time that the comedy is being adapted in Asia. The original series ran in the U.S. for seven seasons, starting in 1992. The show follows a newlywed couple living in the city who are looking to maintain marital bliss despite obstacles such as their careers, families and friends. Casting is under way for the two leads and supporting roles. Production is slated to begin in early 2015.

Dai Huang, the executive director of sales, international distribution and acting executive director for international production in Asia at SPT, said: “With our robust scripted formats business, we have found that hit series have universal appeal. We have chosen to co-produce a local version of Mad About You in China because we believe this story about a young couple trying to balance their lives in the big city will be especially relevant to local audiences.”
