MIPTV, which runs from March 30 to April 2, will celebrate Korea as the 2020 Country of Honour.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC), which regulates the Korean broadcasting and communications sector, is sponsoring the country showcase. The tech-savvy country saw its cultural content exports rise by 8.4 percent in 2018 to reach $9.6 billion. The total number of TV titles exported in 2018 rose to 122,962, generating revenues of $326.8 million.

“KCC will be promoting the excellence and creativity of the Korean production sector and its advanced broadcasting technology services,” said Laurine Garaude, director of the television division at Reed MIDEM. “Through the events and showcases during MIPTV, delegates will have the opportunity to see the best of the Korean Wave of TV and online content, which has recently produced some huge international hits.”

“Just like this event’s slogan, Korea, Story Connects Us, I hope we can join hands with the world to together create a cooperation model in various sectors like production and distribution,” commented Han Sang-hyuk, chairman of the KCC.

The Country of Honour spotlight will include four conference sessions: Fresh TV Korea, Behind Korea’s Mega Hits, Korea’s Platform and Distribution Strategy and Co-Producing with Korea. There will also be matchmaking and networking opportunities. The country’s major channel operators, including Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), Munhwa Broadcasting Corp (MBC), Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), CJ ENM and JTBC, will be attending the market.
