KC Global Media Completes AXN Asia Transaction

Andy Kaplan and George Chien’s KC Global Media Entertainment has completed its acquisition of Sony Pictures Television’s networks in Southeast Asia and Korea.

KC Global Media has now taken full control of AXN, Animax, ONE and GEM in Southeast Asia and South Korea after announcing the deal with Sony in January 2020. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“At a challenging time when deals are falling away, we maintain our strong belief in the global network and content model,” said Andy Kaplan, chairman of KC Global Media Entertainment. “We hope this transaction represents a true turning point for the media business in Asia, and others contemplating entering the market see the many advantages and opportunities that we do as the world gets back to business.”

KC has also announced the promotion of Avani Bhanchawat to VP for affiliates, media and sponsorship sales. George Chien, president and CEO, commented, “With her depth of experience and outstanding track record in driving revenue, Avani will undoubtedly be an asset to KC Global Media Entertainment in her new role. I strongly believe her astute business acumen will see her further strengthen our existing partnerships, while forging new strategic relationships and identifying opportunities for growth in order to provide world-class entertainment to our Asian audiences.”
