LONDON: The Imaginarium Studios, which specializes in performance-capture technology, has expanded into AsiaPac with the creation of The Imaginarium Studios Asia-Pacific.

The investment is supported by Rhizophora Ventures, a Malaysia-based company set up to invest in the creative and media sectors. The move will create a specialist performance capture and content creation hub in Johor, Malaysia on the site of the Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios. The Imaginarium Studio’s expansion into Malaysia will form a second performance-capture hub, servicing the Asian and Australasian markets.

The Imaginarium Studios Asia-Pacific will open for business in May 2016, with several projects in the pipeline. Construction of the new performance-capture studio is due for completion in late 2017.

CEO of The Imaginarium Studios, Tony Orsten, said, “This is a huge step for the studio and we are really excited to see what opportunities this move to the Asia-Pacific region will bring. By offering our services in the latest in performance-capture technology, our hope is that we will be able to create brilliant forward-thinking projects in gaming, film, television, music and live events—introducing viewers to a brand-new way of experiencing art.”

Michael Lake, the group managing director of Rhizophora Ventures, commented: “This opportunity to partner with The Imaginarium Studios fits with our mandate to build the infrastructure for the creative industries in Johor. It will bring to the region high-level job opportunities for Malaysian technical artists and fits with the other creative industries’ infrastructure already based and operating in Johor.”
