FINAS Announces Malaysian Content Deals at MIPCOM

CANNES: Malaysian companies at MIPCOM announced a slew of deals this week across the kids, scripted and documentary genres.

The country's newly appointed Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Ahmed Shabery Cheek, is leading a delegation of more than 60 companies at the market. “I feel that Malaysia is rapidly evolving into a nation of advanced enterprise and modern commerce. We offer a truly unique experience for our industry partners to work with in terms of our many multi-lingual local talents, natural beauty and resources, convenient geographic location as well as the richness of our multicultural heritage; it is through this that Malaysia offers a unique competitive advantage for domestic and global growth. The government will continue to actively support our local companies as we keep moving forward to develop Malaysia into a high income developed nation and eventually the creative hub of Asia."

The Malaysian delegation to MIPCOM is co-organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in association with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Tourism Malaysia and the Creative Content Association Malaysia (CCAM).

Deals announced include Animasia taking on production outsourcing and distribution for seasons four, five and six of Strikas Entertainment’s Supa Strikas. Giggle Garage is working with Bejuba Entertainment on Origanimals. Anima Point, a new JV between Creative Media Point and Finland's Anima Vitae, is working on the $10-million feature Hugo. Primeworks Studio signed distribution deals on a number of its titles. Ideate Media, LemonSky, Essential Media Entertainment, Telegael and Bejuba! Entertainment are partnering on Bubble Bath Bay.
