LONDON: BTI Studios has appointed SDI Media’s YC Sun as the managing director for the Asia-Pacific region.

The localization company, which provides dubbing, subtitling, access and media services in any language, recently started building new state-of-the-art studios in Bangkok, Thailand. BTI Studios plans to expand into several Asian countries in the coming years. In his new role, Sun will guide the growth of the company in the Asian market. Sun’s appointment follows BTI’s acquisition of Asian media house Medi-Lan, which was announced in April 2015 and formalized this year. BTI Asia’s founders and directors will work alongside Sun to support the company’s growth.

Sun joins BTI Studios from SDI Media, where he was VP of operations for Asia. Prior to that, he worked at Disney for 17 years in senior technical roles. Sun’s expertise in the localization industry ranges from strategic planning to operations, production and client services.

Björn Lifvergren, the CEO of BTI Studios, said, “The need for BTI to serve fast-growing demand across Asia for localized content and to offer clients in Asia quicker and easier access to distribute their own content globally drove both our acquisition of Medi-Lan and this key appointment. YC Sun brings dynamism, expertise and years of experience to this new role. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Sun added: “There has never been a more exciting time to work in the Asian localization market, and BTI Studios has positioned itself to be one of the key players. BTI is undoubtedly one of the most experienced and customer-focused localization companies in the world and I’m looking forward to bringing its exceptional offering to even more clients across Asia.”

Torun Chakrabarty, the CEO of BTI Asia, commented, “This is an exciting and challenging time for localization companies as platforms and content expand and demand grows in the vast Asian market. It is essential that a serious player should have the best people on its team to meet this challenge. YC Sun certainly fits that description. We are looking forward to working with him.”
