SINGAPORE: Japan-Singapore co-production Jimami Tofu from BananaMana Films has procured production funding and global distribution partners.

The romantic feature is slated to finish principal photography in early December and will be BananaMana Films’ first full-length feature. It has already racked up presales with international distributors such has Korea’s IHQ, Japanese global TV platform Viki and Encore Inflight.

The film tells the story of a chef, formerly of Tokyo, who finds himself in Okinawa begging a disgruntled old chef to teach him how to prepare traditional Okinawan cuisine, and a Japanese food critic who finds herself in Singapore. Both the young chef and the food critic are actually looking for each other following a devastating breakup years ago. The film is written, directed and produced by Jason Chan and Christian Lee and is led by an international cast, including Jason Chan, Mari Yamamoto, Rino Nakasone, Masane Tsukayama and many prominent Okinawan actors.
