SYDNEY: Quickflix has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an unnamed Shanghai-based company it plans to merge with to form a global streaming platform for Chinese film and TV content.

Quickflix, an Australian and New Zealand streaming service, is planning to acquire the Chinese company, which produces original Chinese-language film and TV properties. The company, which Quickflix has not disclosed the name of, also has co-productions in China and international markets.

If the two proceed to combine their businesses, the plan is to create a streaming platform for China and other markets internationally. Quickflix said it hopes to make a further announcement about the deal on or before August 20.

The MOU comes after Quickflix's plans to align with fellow Australian streaming service Presto fell through.
