APOS Unveils 2017 Agenda

HONG KONG/SINGAPORE: APOS has unveiled the program for this year’s event, slated for April 25 to 27 in Bali, with keynote conversations and panel discussions exploring the major trends in AsiaPac’s media, telecoms and content sectors.

On April 26, following an industry overview by Media Partners Asia’s Vivek Couto, a string of heavy-hitters are lined up for the strand titled “A Global Game” in 20-minute sessions. It kicks off with YouTube’s chief business officer, Robert Kyncl, at 8:20 a.m., followed by Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International; Brian Sullivan, the president and COO of the digital consumer group at 21st Century Fox; Gerhard Zeiler, the president of Turner International; Kevin MacLellan, the chairman of global distribution and international at NBCUniversal; and Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix.

Next up, the “Different Rules” section will look at new ways of monetizing video and engaging with consumers. Opening this segment is Ernest Cru, president and CEO of Globe Telecom in the Philippines; followed by Foxtel CEO Peter Tonagh; Amazon Prime’s head of APAC content, James Farrell; Viacom International Media Networks’ new president and CEO, David Lynn; BBC Worldwide CEO Tim Davie and then Sky’s group COO, Andrew Griffith.

Following the lunch break, delegates will hear from panelists discussing telcos and OTT, including a session with iflix CEO Mark Britt, PCCW Media Group’s Janice Lee and Tencent Video VP Jeff Han.

The afternoon will explore two of Asia’s biggest media markets, Korea and India. The Korea sessions feature Sang Gill (Tschaik) Lee, executive VP and chief strategy officer at CJ E&M; and Jeongdo Hong, president and CEO of JoongAng Media Network. The India segment, titled “Placing Bets on New Pipes and Old,” includes Reliance Industries’ Adil Zainulbhai, IndiaCast’s Anuj Gandhi, ALT Digital’s Sameer Nair, Hotstar’s Ajit Mohan, Viacom18’s Gaurav Gandhi and Tata Sky’s Harit Nagpal.

“Risk and Reinvention” is the theme of the opening session on April 27, exploring digital investment strategies with WPP’s Scott Spirit, VICE Media’s Jay Rosenstock and Hosi Simon, 88rising’s Jaeson Ma and Discovery’s Michael Lang. The 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. block will be focused on China with Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group’s Zhang Wei and Tang Media Partners’ Donald Tang. Next up will be a string of speakers on sports, exploring new models of monetization. The lineup includes MP & Silva’s Swee Sin Wu, Sina Sports’ Sam Li, beIN Media’s Mike Kerr and One Championship’s Chatri Sityodtong, among others. Later, news will take center stage with Bloomberg Media Group CEO Justin Smith, Al-Jazeera English’s Giles Trendle, BBC News’s Jonathan Munro and CNN International’s Ellana Lee.

After lunch, there will be sessions focusing on content with Keshet International’s Alon Shtruzman, DramaFever’s Hyun Park, A Story’s Richard Shim and A+E Networks’ Edward Sabin. Later in the afternoon, speakers will include Essel Group’s Amit Goenka, Optus’s Allan Lew, Stan’s Mike Sneesby and HOOQ’s Peter Bithos. The day’s sessions wrap with MNC Group’s founder and president commissioner, Hary Tanoesoedibjo.
