CANNES: The Malaysian contingent at MIPCOM, led by Sri Kamaruddin Siaraf, Secretary General of the country’s Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture, will be offering 200 new shows to the international market.

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) pavilion will house 40 Malaysian content companies working across a range of genres. Malaysia’s “creative economy and ecosystem have one of the best synergies to accelerate growth in content development, which is complemented by various funding and incentives, leading-edge studio facilities, strong creative talents, culturaly-adept multi-racial society, supportive government and a competitive economy,” Siaraf said. “This foundation has given Malaysian producers a competitive edge over other countries, encouraging the significant growth of completed IPs.”

In addition to promoting Malaysian content, FINAS is showcasing the Film in Malaysia production Incentive, which offers a 30-percent cash rebate on in-country spend, subject to producers meeting a minimum spending level. Malaysian companies can also access a $38 million Creative Industry Grant, a $33 million Creative Industry Development Fund and a $65 million MyCreative Fund.
