TEL AVIV: Keshet International (KI) has licensed the hit scripted series The A Word to be adapted in Greece.

The local Greek version, titled Η λέξη που δεν λες (The Word You Don’t Say), will be produced by Indigo View for Alpha TV. It has been written by Katerina Giannakou (Koukles) and directed by Theo Papadoulakis. The 13-part series features a cast of leading local talent, among them Maria Protopappa (The Island) and Vasilis Bisbikis (The City of Children), as well as Giorgos Stentoumis and Pinelopi Tsilika (Little England).

Kostas Sousoulas, the general director at Alpha TV, said, “The story is family-orientated so we expect to attract a wide range of viewers, thus positioning the series as one of Alpha TV’s main prime-time programs for the coming season. The series is exclusively shot on the island of Crete, where it is set in a village—and this is something that enhances the power of the family and the strong bonds that this story deals with. It bears high production values and an all-star Greek cast. It is with great pleasure that we are hosting the Greek version of The A Word for the 2016-17 season.”

Nelly Feld, sales director for distribution at Keshet International, said, “We couldn’t be happier to collaborate with Alpha TV on the new Greek edition of The A Word. As a moving and yet lighthearted drama about family and communication, anyone can relate to it—but even more so in Greece, where family is such an important part of life, culture and tradition. The first season was a triumph for BBC One and I am sure this will be replicated in Greece.”
