Six U.S. Studios File China Piracy Suit

BEIJING, September 14: The MPAA, on behalf of six Hollywood
studios, has filed suit against two shops in Beijing accused of selling pirated
copies of movies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and The Incredibles,
wire reports indicate.

The stores have allegedly been selling bootleg copies of 16
to 17 titles. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Sony, Disney, Paramount,
Twentieth Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros., is seeking damages of $7,500
per title.

The MPAA filed ten lawsuits in 2002-03 against manufacturers
or retailers accused of film piracy, and all were decided or settled in favor
of the group's member companies, the AP reports.
