Showtime Picks Up Kirsten Dunst-Led Dark Comedy Series

Showtime has acquired On Becoming a God in Central Florida, a dark comedy series starring Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Kirsten Dunst.

The comedy, which features nine hour-long episodes, tells the story of Krystal Stubbs (Dunst), a woman in pursuit of the American Dream who falls into the cult of free enterprise. A minimum-wage water park employee, Krystal lies, schemes and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise in an effort to make a better life for herself—but soon finds her business negatively affecting those closest to her.

In addition to Dunst, On Becoming a God in Central Florida stars Théodore Pellerin (Genesis), Beth Ditto (Nocturnal Animals), Mel Rodriguez (The Last Man on Earth) and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs). The series was created and executive produced by Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky and produced by Sony’s TriStar Television. Smokehouse Pictures’ George Clooney and Grant Heslov also co-executive produced the project along with Dunst, pilot director Charlie McDowell and showrunner Esta Spalding.
