Power’s Flood Notches Up Strong Ratings in the U.K.

LONDON, May 6: ITV1’s broadcast of Power’s $30-million
two-part disaster mini-series Flood on
Sunday and Monday achieved strong viewing figures, ranking as the number one
program for both nights.

The first part of the mini-series,
which aired on Sunday, May 4, received a peak audience of 7.6 million viewers,
taking a 30-percent share and beating BBC One’s Raiders of the Lost Arc by more than 2 million viewers. The second part, which
aired on Monday, May 5, attracted 6.2 million viewers and a 28-percent share,
also beating all other channels in that time slot.

Both the feature film and the two-part mini-series of Flood have been sold around the world. DVD sales of the
film in the U.K. have surpassed 220,000 since its release.

Featuring special effects and CGI, Flood depicts a raging storm unleashing a colossal surge
of water down England’s east coast and into the River Thames. It was written by
Justin
Bodle and Matthew Cope, and is based on the book of the same title by
Richard Doyle. The producers are Power’s Justin Bodle and Peter McAleese.
Directed by Tony Mitchell, Flood
comprises an international cast that includes Robert Carlyle, Jessalyn Gilsig,
David Suchet and Joanne Whalley. Flood was produced in association with Moonlighting Films (South Africa) and
Muse Entertainment Enterprises (Canada). The co-producers are Michael Prupas
(Muse Entertainment) and Philip Key and Genevieve Hofmeyr for Moonlighting.

Bodle, Power’s founder, commented: “We are very excited to
have achieved such high ratings on a U.K. May bank holiday. It reinforces our
view that there are huge audiences for big event mini-series.”
